This article beautifully and heartbreakingly discusses the dual and intertangled problems of stereotyping and historical/racial narratives. No one people can be fully represented by any stereotype or narrative. Jews are not only victims; they also fought and fight like hungry wolves for their own nation state. Southerners and African-Americans are not only their stereotypes and their roles as played out in northern and American narratives. Roping them into such narrow confines does a disservice to them as humans, and hurts us all.
